This Month at Bard Graduate Center

Another academic year has closed and Bard Graduate Center once again celebrates the outstanding achievements of our latest graduates—fifteen master’s degree students who presented their qualifying papers and five doctoral candidates who successfully completed their dissertations. We wish them success as they embark on the next phase of their careers.

In the Gallery, the Focus Project series continues with exhibitions on Franz Boas and his collaborator George Hunt, and the graphic designer Jan Tschichold, who defined the “New Typography” movement of the interwar period. Also on view is A View from the Jeweler’s Bench. If you haven’t yet, please stop by before they close on July 7.

FINAL WEEKS

Our current exhibitions feature faculty-curated Focus Projects on Franz Boas and his collaborator George Hunt, and the graphic designer Jan Tschichold, who defined the “New Typography” movement of the interwar period. A View from the Jeweler’s Bench is curated by Sasha Nixon, who received her MA from Bard Graduate Center in 2018.

Chief Curator Named AAMC President

BGC Chief Curator and Associate Gallery Director Marianne Lamonaca has been named president of the Association of Art Museum Curators.

“We congratulate Marianne on this appointment. I know her longstanding curatorial experience will be a great asset to the AAMC,” said Gallery Director and Director of Curatorial Affairs Nina Stritzler Levine. Read more.

Agents of Faith: Votive of Objects in Time and Place (fall 2018) by Ittai Weinryb, is described by Christopher Colvin in the June issue of Art Newspaper as “truly a sight to behold. Lavishly illustrated. . . it is an absolute joy to turn pages that open up a complex expression of faith.”

Kids’ Workshop: The Redhawk Native American Arts Council
June 22, 12:30 and 2:30 pm

During this workshop, young people learn about the traditional and social styles of different Native American dances, as well as each dance’s origin and significance. Register here.
