Dear *|FNAME|*,

BGC’s fall exhibition SIGHTLINES on Peace, Power & Prestige: Metal Arts in Africa is now on view!

Will Heinrich of the New York Times recommends SIGHTLINES in the 2023 Fall Arts Preview, calling it an “ingenious remix of a show” that “displays historic metalwork like a pair of elegant brass anklets from nineteenth-century Nigeria alongside works by Sharif Bey, Zohra Opoku and other artists from Africa and the African diaspora.”

On view through December 31, 2023.

Join a Thursday Tour and explore the SIGHTLINES on Peace, Power & Prestige: Metal Arts in Africa exhibition with a Bard Graduate Center gallery educator. Tours last 40 minutes and focus on a curated selection of objects. You are invited to stay and explore the rest of the exhibition at your own pace after the tour ends.

In the spirit of the exhibition title, Bard Graduate Center has invited writer and critic Jessica Lynne, to create her own “sightline,” exploring the ways in which she sees the works on view through time, form, and space. She will reflect on the spiritual potencies of water, Black memory and cultural retention, and home as a site of care and intimacy. A selection of film clips, songs, and interviews will be used as a response to and in conversation with her selected “sightline.”
