Hello Prospective Students!

Many of you are familiar with my emails by now but if you are new, my name is Emily Harvey and I am a second-year Master’s student and this year’s Admissions Ambassador. As some of you are finishing up applications and preparing to submit them, I wanted to mention BGC’s location on the Upper West side of Manhattan. Perhaps you’ve already visited BGC, but part of the reason I applied was the New York City location. Originally from Virginia I have now lived in the city for the past year and a half as a student. Having visited New York multiple times when I was younger, I knew that going to school here would be formative to my experience and education in the field of decorative arts. Just across the park and down the block from BGC are some of the world’s most renowned museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Natural History Museum, the New York Historical Society, and many more.

Along with visiting these museums on our own, we often visit collections and other research institutions in our courses. These field trips include tours by curators of special exhibitions, visits inside storage spaces, and sometimes getting to view objects up close. These personal interactions with curators, exhibitions, and objects are invaluable to our education and make me appreciate our New York City location all the more!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions about BGC and I hope to see some of you at the Tuesday Tours in the spring!

Warm Regards,
Emily Harvey ‘23
Admissions Ambassador
