Hello prospective students,

I hope you are well!

It was a pleasure to be able to meet and chat with many of you at our last two open houses. I am looking forward to seeing some of you at our next in-person open house on December 5! In today’s email, I want to share with you some information that you might not know about the Bard Graduate Center, which I hope will be helpful to consider while you complete your applications!

Did you know…

…that BGC offers housing?

…and it’s nice, too! Bard Hall is home to many members of the BGC community including MA and PhD students (including myself!), faculty, and staff. Located just a few blocks away from Columbus Circle, Bard Hall is very close to many train lines and iconic New York City sites. A number of studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments are spread over nine floors, each containing its own kitchen and bathroom. In addition to in-building laundry, the exercise room, indoor communal space, and back patio are the facilities that make living at Bard Hall a comfortable and social experience.

…funding is available for MA students?

Many incoming MA students receive some aid through scholarships and fellowships awarded at the time of admission. In addition, campus employment opportunities serve as another form of funding and offer students professional development. For me, the generous financial support offered by the BGC has been instrumental in making it possible for me to pursue my masters degree through this program. I am also very grateful for the opportunity to grow professionally by learning from the dedicated librarians, gallery educators, and other members of the BGC community through on-campus employment positions.

…about the Brown Bag Lunches and other afternoon talks and workshops?

In every BGC student’s schedule, there is a break from 12 to 1:30 pm after morning classes have ended and before afternoon classes begin. This is the time where the students can bring their lunch to the lecture hall and munch while they listen to interesting talks by scholars and other professionals within the field. Often, this afternoon slot is also when writing and digital literacy workshops take place. The agenda contains a variety of engaging events throughout the semester.

I hope that this is useful information as you consider BGC. As always, please reach out to me with any questions. I wish you all a lovely holiday.

Stay warm,
