German Design Publications

Join us as Professor Paul Stirton walks us through the Library’s collection of German design publications from the Weimar period, many of which informed his recent exhibition, Jan Tschichold and the New Typography. One of the highlights is the journal, Offset: Buch und Werbekunst (Book and Advertising Art), of which the BGC has the only run in any US library. This journal was made famous by a special issue of July 1926 devoted to the Bauhaus; the cover of that issue has become an icon of modernist graphic design. There are many other journals in our library that provide an insight into the design world of Central Europe between the two world wars.
