Boom & Bust Brick
This work-in-progress talk examines brick as a material through which American futures have been imagined, secured, and repeatedly undone. Following brick across cycles of making, building, demolition, and salvage, Sam Dodd asks how the material’s durability has naturalized claims to land and permanence, even as boom-and-bust economies leave those promises unevenly inherited.
