Fall greetings from Bard Graduate Center! We hope this message finds you well and in good spirits.

At BGC our research is constantly uncovering new material and advancing new perspectives in the decorative arts, material culture, and design history. If this work is important to you, we ask that you give as generously as you can this season.

Our fall exhibition SIGHTLINES on Peace, Power & Prestige: Metal Arts in Africa is now on view! Will Heinrich of the New York Times calls it an “ingenious remix of a show” that “displays historic metalwork like a pair of elegant brass anklets from nineteenth-century Nigeria alongside works by Sharif Bey, Zohra Opoku and other artists from Africa and the African diaspora.” Radcliffe Bailey, Sammy Baloji, Lubaina Himid, Bronwyn Katz, Kapwani Kiwanga, Abigail Lucien, Tsedaye Makonnen, Otobong Nkanga, Julia Phillips, Nari Ward, and Amanda Williams round out the stellar group of leading contemporary artists featured in the exhibition.

Whether we are presenting African metalwork, European porcelain, or Jewish material culture, our in-depth research and unmatched exhibition designs immediately engage the visitor. The totality of the work that is carried out at BGC—education, research, exhibitions, and scholarly publications—is what allows us to achieve this unparalleled level of excellence that heightens the viewer’s experience of the object and the world that it belongs to.

This level of excellence and engagement is only possible through the support of our community—trustees, donors, faculty, students, members, staff, alumni, and friends. If the work that we do at BGC is important to you, we ask that you give as generously as you can.
