Alumni Spotlight

Earlier this month, Ana Matisse Donefer-Hickie (MA ’17) and Susie Silbert (MA ’12) participated in a panel about German waldglas and slippage between media like glass and jewelry at the Whitney Studio organized by Elle Décor writer Camille Okhio to coincide with the debut of jeweler Jean Prounis’s new collection, Waldglas: A Study of Prunts.

Hadley Jensen (MA ’13, PhD ’19) recently assumed the role of curator at the Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe. Congratulations, Hadley!

Madeline Porsella (MA ’23) and Mabel Capability Taylor (MA ’24) launched Mandylion Press to “unearth lost literary gems written by women and weirdos in the (very) long nineteenth century.” The press’s first publications, new editions of The Gadfly by Ethel Lilian Voynich and Other Things Being Equal by Emma Wolf, are now available at McNally Jackson, Stories (Los Angeles), Green Apple (San Francisco), and from their online store.

The Dedalus Foundation invites applications to its program in support of art historians, critics, and curators pursuing projects related to painting, sculpture and allied arts from the twentieth century. Materials are due by September 16, 2024.

The Katonah Museum of Art seeks an associate director of institutional advancement to partner with the executive director in stewarding all aspects of the organization’s fundraising, cultivation, communications, and marketing efforts. Find more information about the position at the attached announcement.

The Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM) seeks an outstanding emerging scholar of American art for a curatorial fellowship funded by the Henry Luce Foundation. Applicant must have a solid grounding within the broad field of American art with knowledge of art of the late eighteenth, nineteenth, and early twentieth century, but will specialize in one or more areas within that field. The preferred areas of specialization include, but are not limited to, the arts of the American Shakers and early American folk art. The announcement opened June 11 and will close on July 11.

Summer on the Hudson
Riverside Park
Multiple dates

Last weekend in Riverside Park, I came across a free salsa class, part of the Summer on the Hudson series of events. Summer on the Hudson is Riverside Park and West Harlem Piers Park’s annual outdoor arts and culture festival that takes place from 59th Street to 181st Street along the Hudson River, from May to October. Events include concerts, dance performances, movies under the stars, DJ dance parties, children’s shows, educational workshops, special day-long festivals, wellness activities, and more.
