Dear Alumni,

Hello from London! I’m currently spending two weeks in the UK for research, and I’ve had a wonderful time visiting museums and libraries. Earlier this week, I saw some fashion plates at the Victoria and Albert Museum that I first learned about during my time at BGC. I also enjoyed going to a pub to watch the Euro finals (until England’s disappointing loss), and I’ve been grateful for a break from the New York humidity.

As you would have seen two weeks ago, I’m sharing mini profiles of alumni in this newsletter. If you’d like to be featured in a future note, write to me at alumni@bgc.bard.edu! I’d love to learn more about what you’re up to.

For more specific updates, you can fill out the online form.

All best,
Julia Carabatsos (MA ’22)

The Barnes Foundation seeks a short-term researcher to work on three topics: the dealers that Barnes purchased the collection from in the 1930s and early 1940s and the provenance of the objects; American iron and steelwork; and additional collection areas including European and American copper, brass, pewter, locks, keys, weapons, ecclesiastic objects, and a range of other materials. Contracts would last from August to October 2024. Those interested should email Alison Boyd, director of research and interpretation, at aboyd@barnesfoundation.org.

The British Museum is hiring a curator of European Modern Collection 1800 to present. The curator will curate, research, document, display and augment the museum’s collection of European material culture dating from 1800 to the present in support of the museum operating plan and all relevant museum strategies. This includes research, making the collection accessible in the galleries, through exhibitions and media, as well as collaborating on the eventual re-display enabled through the masterplan. The jobholder is expected to be a recognized authority about a particular aspect of modern material culture represented in the collection and to manage and develop areas of it that are beyond their current areas of expertise.
