Dear Alumni,

Last week I visited the Met’s new exhibition Sargent and Paris. The show features some of my long-standing favorites (including The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit, which I have fond memories of seeing at the MFA Boston as a child), and it also introduced me to new material (like a series of studies in pencil of Virginie Amélie Avegno Gautreau for the portrait Madame X). I was especially excited to visit because current BGC PhD candidate Caroline Elenowitz-Hess worked on the show as a research assistant in the American Wing and contributed a chapter to the catalogue titled “Echoes and Afterlives of Madame X”!

I’d also like to call your attention to BGC’s Alumni Spotlight Lecture on Tuesday, May 13, featuring Julie Bellemare (PhD ’21). Please find more information about the evening, which will begin with an opportunity to learn more about the BGC Study Collection, in the BGC events listings below. I hope to see many of you there!

As always, you can share news via our online form! I look forward to hearing your updates.

All best,
Julia Carabatsos (MA ’22)
