Study Collection Donor Spotlight: Stephen Blank

Join collector Dr. Stephen Blank (PhD, Harvard University) who, along with his late wife, Lenore Blank, donated a large collection of items to the Study Collection including objects from Africa, Canada, and the U.K. Stephen is a writer and retired academic who ran a consulting company and worked for non-for-profit institutions over many decades. Stephen will discuss with Barb Elam, Digital Collections Metadata Librarian and Study Collection Manager, collecting as a practice and will present a number of works he and Lenore gave to the BGC.

Creating Interactive Maps with StoryMapsJS

Are you interested in creating object narratives using maps? In this workshop, we’ll explore StoryMapJS, a simple online tool for mapping connections between objects and places to tell a dynamic story. You will get hands-on experience creating an interactive map that incorporates text, images, video, and other multimedia content. You’ll also learn how to customize the style of your map and place it on a BGC Commons or Courses site for research or coursework. WordPress Refresh

This workshop looks closely at expanding WordPress through the Divi Builder and Divi Theme, a set of tools that lets users fully customize the look and functionality of websites without any coding knowledge. Working with Divi’s toolkit, participants will learn how to implement advanced layout designs, develop templates, dynamic page content, and integrate multimedia. This workshop will prove helpful for anyone looking to have more control over the design and functionality of their web-based projects. Deep Dive in the Archive

The Department of Research Collections invites faculty, fellows, and students to dive into archival research. We will discuss researching and locating archival repositories, the types of materials found in archives, understanding finding aids, how to contact archives to access collections, and how to cite archival material. In addition, we will look at examples from BGC’s own archives, as well as other institutions in New York City and beyond.
