How to Research and Write a Good QP

In this two-part workshop we’ll discuss two indispensable elements of a good qualifying paper: research and writing. Led by Polly Cancro, Research Services Librarian and Helen Polson, Assistant Professor of Practice in Writing.

This workshop is geared towards students submitting a QP in the current academic year.

WordPress Refresh

This workshop looks closely at expanding WordPress through the Divi Builder and Divi Theme, a set of tools that lets users fully customize the look and functionality of websites without any coding knowledge. Working with Divi’s toolkit, participants will learn how to implement advanced layout designs, develop templates, dynamic page content, and integrate multimedia. This workshop will prove helpful for anyone looking to have more control over the design and functionality of their web-based projects. Led by Jesse Merandy, Director of Digital Humanities/Exhibitions and Julie Fuller, Digital Humanities Educational Technologist.

Creating Interactive Images with Draw Attention

Draw Attention is a powerful WordPress plugin that creates interactive images for your web-based project. In this workshop you will learn how to work with images in the plugin and create clickable/tappable regions to present information, images, videos, and more. Led by Jesse Merandy, Director of Digital Humanities/Exhibitions and Julie Fuller, Digital Humanities Educational Technologist.

BGC x NYFA

As part of two workshops being offered this year with the New York Foundation of the Arts, the first will focus on internships. The workshop will start with a 30 minute introduction from the NYFA Classifieds team focusing on the current internship market and best practices around applying. Following the introduction, you will have the opportunity to meet with consultants for one-on-one 30 minute counseling sessions where you can get tailored feedback on resumes, cover letters, and interview tactics. The entire workshop will be held on Zoom.

Materials Days: Urban Glass

Materials Days are a series of events held throughout the year to give BGC students hands-on learning experiences led by makers. The first one will be a glass blowing workshop at UrbanGlass in Brooklyn. Under the guidance of instructors, students will have the opportunity to create one small object, such as a paperweight or cup, using different colors and decorating techniques. Each student should choose one session; it is not a two-part workshop.

Straight to the Source: Archives & Special Collections Research

Take your research to the next level with special collections and archives. We will discuss the kinds of items held in such collections, including rare and primary source material, as well as how to find repositories, navigate finding aids, and request access to holdings. We will explore examples from BGC’s own archives and special collections, as well as other institutions in New York City and beyond. Led by Polly Cancro, Research Services Librarian; Mike Satalof, Archivist and Digital Preservation Specialist; and Helen Polson, Assistant Professor of Practice in Writing.

Advanced SketchUp Techniques

Want to take your SketchUp exhibition to the next level? Join us to learn advanced techniques for creating object displays, working with images, and other methods for improving your virtual gallery design. We will also cover how to create walk-throughs and video exports so that you can share your exhibition concepts with others. Led by Jesse Merandy, Director of Digital Humanities/Exhibitions and Julie Fuller, Digital Humanities Educational Technologist.
