We will have two Materials Days this spring! The first with be a bobbin lace workshop at BGC on February 22 led by PhD student Elena Kanagy-Loux. On April 12 and 19 we will have two workshops at Brooklyn Metal Works on making silver stacking rings (details and registration will be shared later this semester).

Elena’s workshop will cover the basics of bobbin lace, including:

  • How to wind and hitch your bobbins
  • How to prepare a pattern on your pillow
  • The three foundational filling stitches: cloth stitch, whole stitch, and half stitch
  • How to combine two of these stitches in a single row
  • Students will leave with a stitch sampler strip/bookmark and the basic skills to continue on in bobbin lace

Space is limited. To RSVP for the lace materials days, please email julia.cullen@bgc.bard.edu.
