Archiving Your Web-Based Projects

This hands-on session will demonstrate how to preserve content on the web using free, open source tools using just your web browser. It will introduce web archiving concepts and will show participants how to capture their own web-based projects for presentation purposes and long-term preservation. Fair Use & Copyright

This workshop will discuss the concept of fair use doctrine as it applies to images, the difference between copyrighted and public domain works, the concept of transformative use, and the factors used in fair use analysis. Navigating artists’ rights will also be covered. Hands-on activities are included. Intro to 3D printing

Come learn how to use a 3D printer, and print an object of your own! In this workshop, we’ll walk through the process of developing a 3D printed object, from concept to a machine-ready printer file. We’ll cover the basics of 3D printers including the hardware, printing materials, and 3D printer software. Come explore making in three dimensions as you build skills in technical design and fabrication.

This workshop will be led by second-year MA student, Karlyn Allenbrand.

Intro to Audio Editing with GarageBand

GarageBand is a powerful, yet simple, digital audio workstation (DAW) for macOS and iOS that features an intuitive, modern design, which makes it easy to create music, podcasts, oral history projects and more. In this workshop you will be introduced to audio engineering, learning how to import, edit, mix, export and share digital audio. If you are interested in working on any project involving audio, this workshop will give you the basic skills needed to get started. These fundamentals can be applied to other DAW’s as well.

This workshop will be led by Sean Hagerty, a sound designer, composer, and violinist known for his work with immersive theater company Third Rail Projects (Then She Fell, The Grand Paradise, and Ghost Light at Lincoln Center, among others). https://www.seanhagerty.com

This workshop looks closely at expanding WordPress through the Divi Builder and Divi Theme, a set of tools that lets users fully customize the look and functionality of websites without any coding knowledge. Working with Divi’s toolkit, participants will learn how to implement advanced layout designs, develop templates, dynamic page content, and integrate multimedia. This workshop will prove helpful for anyone looking to have more control over the design and functionality of their web-based projects. Object Hour: Silver

A material that is at once precious, malleable, and versatile, silver has been favored by makers and consumers across time. How did artisans create silver (and silver-looking) objects, and how did they exploit its properties to respond to changing styles? What can we learn about silver objects from the physical traces of their manufacture, sale, use, repair, and adaptation? This workshop, led by Professor Jeffrey Collins and open to the BGC community, draws on examples from the BGC Study Collection, including works from the Wunsch Foundation of Americana, to explore silver’s value as an index of human activity and creativity. Hosted in the Object Lab with Barb Elam, Digital Collections Metadata Librarian and Study Collection Manager.
