Come learn how to use a 3D printer, and print an object of your own! In this workshop, we’ll walk through the process of developing a 3D printed object, from concept to a machine-ready printer file. We’ll cover the basics of 3D printers including the hardware, printing materials, and 3D printer software. Come explore making in three dimensions as you build skills in technical design and fabrication.

GarageBand is a powerful, yet simple, digital audio workstation (DAW) for macOS and iOS that features an intuitive, modern design, which makes it easy to create music, podcasts, oral history projects and more. In this workshop you will be introduced to audio engineering, learning how to import, edit, mix, export and share digital audio. If you are interested in working on any project involving audio, this workshop will give you the basic skills needed to get started. These fundamentals can be applied to other DAW’s as well.

A material that is at once precious, malleable, and versatile, silver has been favored by makers and consumers across time. How did artisans create silver (and silver-looking) objects, and how did they exploit its properties to respond to changing styles? What can we learn about silver objects from the physical traces of their manufacture, sale, use, repair, and adaptation? This workshop, led by Professor Jeffrey Collins and open to the BGC community, draws on examples from the BGC Study Collection, including works from the Wunsch Foundation of Americana, to explore silver’s value as an index of human activity and creativity.
