Delivering an Effective Academic Presentation

This workshop will walk you through some tips for preparing and delivering an effective academic presentation, while closely looking at some successful examples from previous BGC Wednesday lectures.

Questions may include:

  • Should I read a prepared paper, speak from an outline, or off the cuff?
  • What are the best strategies for incorporating visual images?
  • What pitfalls should I avoid?
  • How can I make the most of the in-person and online platforms?

As part of the workshop, one participant can deliver an upcoming talk (a conference paper, not a class presentation, 20 minutes or shorter). We will work together to provide comments and suggestions. If you’d like to practice delivering your talk, please indicate this in your rsvp; the student will be chosen by first come, first serve.
