Dear Bard Graduate Center Community,

Each year, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History declares a theme to celebrate Black History month. 2024’s theme is “African Americans in the Arts.”

The first year MA students of the BGC Diversity, Equity, Access, and Inclusion committee are pleased to invite faculty, staff, and students to our first Community Hour, an event organized to foster meaningful connections and conversations among us.

On Thursday, February 29 from 4–4:30 pm, we will meet in the Object Lab for a brief introduction to various objects from the study collection by Black American makers, African objects,  as well as related library materials. Then, follow us to the sixth floor for drinks and snacks. If you own an object by a Black maker that you would like to share, we encourage you to bring it to add to the conversations. If you cannot attend, these objects will be on display all day in the Object Lab with additional information. We look forward to seeing you there!

All the best,
Students of the 2023–25 DEAI Committee

Last minute drop-in’s are welcome, but if you know you will join us, please email julia.cullen@bgc.bard.edu so we have enough refreshments and food on hand.
