Symposium—Richard Tuttle: What is the Object?
May 13, 2–5 pm
38 West 86th Street / Zoom

Join Claudia RankineAnn-Sophie LehmannTomashi JacksonK. Anthony Jones, and Francey Russell for a symposium on the topic, What is the Object?

The symposium is organized in conjunction with the exhibition Richard Tuttle: What Is the Object?. Part exhibition, part artwork, the exhibition invites visitors to view, pick up, and hold 75 items drawn from Tuttle’s own collection and explores the meaning of objects through the artist’s eyes. An index card created by Tuttle accompanies each object, outlining his original encounter with it, how it entered his collection, and his thoughts about it.

If the exhibition on view is Richard Tuttle’s way of answering the question he posed in its title, in this symposium each of the five speakers will offer an answer from their own personal, artistic, professional, and disciplinary perspectives. The round of presentations will be followed by a panel discussion that will also include the artist.
