Materials Days are a series of events held throughout the year to provide you hands-on learning experiences led by makers. Our fall semester material day will be an at-home version, with a passementerie making workshop with Jana Platina Phipps, on Wednesday, December 9, from 5–7 pm. This workshop will feature a seminar on the evolution of passementerie from utilitarian beginnings to the artistic ateliers of 16th century France, to the contemporary embellishments that reign as “the jewelry of dress and décor.” It will then be followed by a workshop on how to make a Turk’s head knot banded tassel using passementerie techniques. Participants will be sent a kit with all materials needed for the workshop.
