On October 27 to celebrate Archtober, NYC’s architecture and desgin month, Bard Graduate Center, Architexx, the AIA’s Women in Architecture and Diversity and Inclusion Committees, along with Wikimedia NYC, will host a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon to address the lack of entries on Wikipedia about contributions by women, LGBTQI communities, and artists of color to the fields of architecture and design history.

The event is designed to improve coverage of the arts on Wikipedia. The edit-a-thon will include tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, ongoing editing support, reference materials, and refreshments. No prior Wikipedia experience required but we do encourage attendees to bring a laptop if possible.

AIA New York’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee seeks to provoke a dialogue about diversity issues and give agency to issues of inclusion and representation. In 2008, the AIA National Board recognized that a key strategic initiative required the enlistment of “new talents and new insights to address the critical issues of our time and future generations. The local committee’s role works to match that of the Diversity & Inclusion Council at the National level.
